Bryan Simpson United States Courthouse
This Skanska project was built to house nine different federal courts and includes eighteen courtrooms. The 14-story reinforced concrete building was the second federal courthouse built with the General Service Administration’s blast and progressive collapse criteria and the first in the United States to have an Anthrax/Airborne Evacuation Containment System.
This beautiful structure exemplifies the balance of safety, function and modern beauty with a combination of glass, concrete and composite panels. The GSA was recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with a Certificate of Merit for the design. Jurors for the award cited extensive use of natural light and a balance of security and openness as well as providing design that is integral with the its surroundings.
